Hair loss has three different categories. The first one is called Alopecia areata. It is condition when your immune system start to attack the hair follicles. The second one is known as Alopecia Totalis. In this condition, you lose all your hair on your scalp. The last one is a rare condition which is known as Alopecia Universalis. If you have this condition, you lose all your hair from the body.

For men who encounter hair loss, it is known as male pattern baldness. It affects nearly 25% of men when they reach 30 years old. This baldness is caused by testosterone, the male hormone. Testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT slows down or stops hair growth and produces weaker, shorter hair. If you don't have testosterone, then you should not experience male pattern baldness.

Other factors that can contribute to hair loss is skin diseases, sudden illness.

Skin diseases include dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis and scalp fungus such as ringworm and tinea captis are some of the contributing factors of hair loss.

Sudden illness or fever can cause you to lose a lot of hair. However, the condition only lasts temporarily.

You can prevent hair loss by following the tips below.

1. Your diet is important for hair regrowth. Vitamins A, B, C and E are essential for the development of new hair. You should enrich your meal with foods that are rich with these vitamins.

2. Quit smoking. The harmful substances in the cigarette smoke can reduce the blood flow to the scalp. This will produce unhealthy hair which is easily fall out.

3. Avoid direct sun exposure. Studies show that the UV rays can damage the scalp which discourage the healthy growth of hair.

4. Massage your scalp regularly with herbal oils like olive oil, jojoba oil, and alma oil. These oils prepare your scalp to develop new hair. If you are suffering from alopecia areata, then apply essential oils such as thyme, rosemary, lavender and cedar wood on your scalp.

5. Never use chemical shampoos, straightening of hair and blow drying. Hair coloring that contains chemicals should be avoided. All these hair care products don't benefit your hair and scalp. Don't wast your hair with hot water. You'll notice that your hair become brittle because the hot water wash away the natural oils.
